A very special stay in beautiful Barra, Mozambique.
Villa Verde is not your typical beach casa. Rather, we offer an alternative experience of a rarely-visited side of Barra, along the large lagoon that stretches for over 35km.
The house is situated behind a small and very welcoming village and overlooks the lake. The shores of the lake are fringed with mangroves and often visited by flamingoes. When the tide is high, dhows, or local sail boats can be seen crossing the water. At low tide the lake empties completely and it’s possible to walk across, pick up pansy shells, and strike up a chat with local residents collecting food from the lake.
The garden is a luscious, flower-filled paradise visited by a variety of bird life. Home-grown produce, fresh air, pure borehole water and solar power keeps life at our home natural and close to nature.
At Villa Verde, we love our sunsets, and the veranda is our personal favourite spot. Perfect for sitting back and taking in the sweeping panoramic view of the lake, watching a glorious sunset, chilling by the poolside, or putting your feet up by the fire.
